Bafana's Le Roux reveals best-ever teammate, favourite club & midfield idol

KickOff recently caught up with Bafana Bafana star Luke Le Roux, who gave his verdict on his beloved Arsenal's title hopes, revealed the best coaching advice he has received and named the best player he has played with so far in his career!

Le Roux has been plying his trade and making a name for himself in Europe since leaving SuperSport United in 2020.

The midfielder has enjoyed a rapid ascent over the past year, one that saw him win Swedish-based side Varbergs' Player of the Season award and also make his national team debut.

Le Roux has been an important member of Hugo Broos' Bafana since, helping the national side qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and is also a pivotal player for his club today, having started every game under manager Joakim Persson so far this season.

With the player being based in Europe, not much is known about Le Roux, so KickOff caught up with the 23-year-old to find out more about him!

What is the best coaching advice you have received, and who did it come from?

My current coach usually tells me that "you are only as good as your last game". Now that I think about it, you are only as good as your last game! The more I think about it, the more I think it is true. So every game, you have to play to the best of your ability.

Who is the best player you have played with to date?

Themba Zwane

In your opinion, who is the best player in the world?

Lionel Messi because of what he has achieved in his career and his numbers speak for themselves. Just for the type of player that he is, he is out of this world.

Who is your favourite European club?

Arsenal. I have been supporting them since I was a little kid.

What do you think of the Gunners' season so far?

Now, I can smile. It has been tough over the years. We will see what happens in the next few weeks.

With Manchester City on their tails, do you think they can get over the edge and win the Premier League title?

I get asked this question all the time, but I always respond with: "We only wanted top four at the start of the season."

Who is your favourite Arsenal player?

Thomas Partey because he is a midfielder, he plays the same role I play. He has a lot of good qualities, people have no idea how good he is. When he plays for Arsenal people do not see the type of qualities he has, but when he does not play, you can see how much the team misses him.
