Benni sets big target for Kenya

Benni McCarthy has set himself a big target after being unveiled as the new head coach of the Kenyan national team.

South Africa's all-time leading scorer put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the Harambee Stars.

McCarthy also brought Moeneeb Josephs and Vasili Manousakis into his technical team.

The former Manchester United first team coach has revealed that qualifying for the FIFA World Cup is something he wants to do.

"Participating in the World Cup, it is one of the most special feelings in the world and I want to give them that," McCarthy told BBC Sport Africa.

"With the right mindset and dedication from the players, and the willingness to learn and willingness to give everything they've got for the course.

"I think we can surprise a lot of people by still qualifying for the World Cup."

McCarthy's first games in charge will be 2026 World Cup qualifiers against the Gambia and Gabon later this month.
