Brazil to hijack Portugal's move for Mourinho?

Brazil are reportedly trying to hijack Portugal's move for AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho following Tite's departure.

It was known before the FIFA World Cup that Tite would step down as head coach after the tournament, but the South Americans only made it as far as the quarter-finals.

Brazilian FA president Ednaldo Rodrigues has reportedly sent a representative to Europe to identify the best coaches available for the job.

La Repubblica have reported that Brazil see Mourinho as a candidate to take over from Tite and have already taken the first steps in getting their man.

The report claims that talks have already been opened by with Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes, although various reports claim that Portugal are still interested in the Roma manager.

Mourinho has previously spoken about his admiration for the Brazil national team while he was still at Manchester United.

"I think following Manchester United, I need an easier job than Manchester United, and coaching the Brazilian team should be more difficult," Mourinho told ESPN Brazil in 2017.

"Obviously, it would be exciting, any coach wants to work with the best clubs and with the best.

"The Brazilian team is obviously a leader of success, obviously with talent, no matter what the generation, talent always appears.

"But I have to confess that it must be difficult, in every Brazilian there is a coach, in each journalist there is a better coach than the coach."
