BREAKING: Rooney sacked after just three months!

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has been sacked as manager of his club after just three months in charge.

Birmingham City have officially parted with with Rooney after the Englishman steered the team to just two wins from 15 matches in the Championship.

A statement by the club read: "Birmingham City has today parted company with Manager, Wayne Rooney, and First Team Coach, Carl Robinson.

"Despite their best efforts, results have not met the expectations that were made clear at the outset. Therefore, the Board feels that a change in management is in the best interests of the Football Club.

"The Club's Board and management are fully aligned and will continue to drive transformation and take bold steps to rebuild Birmingham City into the organisation its fans and community deserve.

"The Board would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Wayne and Carl for all of their efforts."

Chief executive officer, Garry Cook, added: "We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St. Andrew's.

"Unfortunately, Wayne's time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move in a different direction.

"The search for a successor begins with immediate effect and we will update supporters when we have further news."

Rooney was appointed on 11 October 2023, not long after he left his role as manager of DC United in the US' Major League Soccer.

Since taking over, Birmingham have slumped from sixth to 20th on the table, with the recent 3-0 defeat to Leeds United being the final nail in the coffin.

He holds an unwanted record of nine defeats in 15 games for the club.

According to The Sun, Rooney was paid three times what was paid to his predecessor John Eustace, who is yet to find a new job since his dismissal at Birmingham after collecting 18 points from the first 11 games of the campaign.

The publication claims Rooney had penned a deal worth £1.5 million (R34.9 million) a year to take over as head coach.
