Bruno issues brutal response after 'Ronaldo rift' questions

Bruno Fernandes has issued a brutal response to reports of a rift between him and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Manchester United star has rubbished suggestions that there is a brewing tension between him and Ronaldo after the two players seemed to have different opinions regarding the arrival of new A Selecao manager Roberto Martinez.

The veteran striker had earlier stated that the former Belgium boss' arrival brought a breath of fresh air to squad, with the Red Devils playmaker later saying there was never a need for fresh air as the team is in a transitional period.

"No, it's just a new coach with new ideas," Fernandes told Portuguese television channel RTP3 after Portugal's 6-0 thrashing of Luxembourg on Sunday.

"There is no breath of fresh air at all. It's just a transition period. The atmosphere in the national team has always been good.

"There's never been anything that wasn't fresh of the air, so I think it's just new dynamics, new coach, and you have to assimilate his ideas."

It appears some of the Portuguese press misconstrued Fernandes' comments to suggest that he was in disagreement with Ronaldo, making it seem like there could be a rift between the two players.

This was said to have left the United skipper incensed, and he took to social media to slam Portuguese news outlet Record.

"My folks, don't create problems where there are none," he wrote on Instagram in response to a post by the abovementioned publication.

"Do your job seriously, don't decontextualise what I said, and write to your liking just to get clicks on your site.

"We all know that Portuguese journalism is rotten when it comes to clubs, but at least with the national team, try to go the same way just like we do on the field together with a lot of joy and seriousness.

"By leaving this comment, I give you even more attention than you wanted, but do your job better."
