Ronaldo makes shock 'offer' for R1.4bn company he has sued

Cristiano Ronaldo has now reportedly made a shock offer to buy a company he has sued in the past.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has had several run-ins with the press during the course of his glittering career, but perhaps none like his fallout with Portuguese publication Correio da Manha, whom he has taken to court on more than one occasion.

It is now reported that, despite his fractured relationship with the newspaper outlet, the 38-year-old has made a bid to take over the Cofina media group, which is the parent company of Correio da Manha, among other newspapers and magazines.

According to Spanish publication El Pais, Ronaldo wants ownership of the conglomerate despite having previously been in court battles with the organisation due to rumours it had spread about him over the years.

It is said the Al Nassr captain, who has refused to speak to journalists from the news source for a few years now, would partner with 10 other potential shareholders for the takeover.

With Correio da Manha understood to be the most circulated daily newspaper in Portugal, though, the striker is competing with other bidders for the Cofina media group, which is said to be valued at €75 million (R1.4 billion).

One particularly high-profile incident between Ronaldo and the conglomerate saw the marksman toss a microphone belonging to an interviewer from Correio da Manha's TV channel into a lake after he was asked an ill-advised question during the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France, which was ultimately won by Portugal for the first time in their history.

Other fallouts include those related to Ronaldo allegedly renovating his luxury home in Lisbon without the permission of the local municipality, while another incident involved the former nanny of the player's son, wherein the ex-caregiver in question is alleged have violated the family's privacy.

The publication also reportedly once claimed that Ronaldo was forced to pay compensation for harassing a minor on social media, speculation he was furious to hear of, and also once ran with a story that his mother had resorted to witchcraft to break up his relationship with his partner, Georgina Rodriguez.
