Netherlands net six goals in final EURO 2024 qualifier

Gibraltar 0-6 Netherlands

Netherlands concluded their 2024 European Championship qualifying campaign in style and hammered the whipping boys of Group B Gibraltar 6-0.

Goalkeeper Bert Verbruggen was given another start by the Dutch, who featured Virgil Van Dijk on the bench and preferred a start for Coady Gakpo as well as Stefan De Vrij.

The Dutch were keen to add to home side's woes who were obliterated by France over the weekend and raced into a three-goal lead through Calvin Steng, Mats Wieffer and Teun Koopmeiners.

Steng completely stole the show earlier in the second stanza with a brace before Gakpo joined in on the act to see the Dutch emerge emphatic victors.

Greece 2-2 France

France were denied a perfect end to their qualifying campaign in Group B following an entertaining 2-2 draw with Greece on Tuesday.

It was a landmark start for Antoine Griezmann, who turned out for the 84th consecutive time for Les Blues while Brice Samba and Marcus Thuram were also recalled.

After a totally dominant start, Les Blues hit the front when Randal Kolo Muani collected a pass from Olivier Giroud to finish comfortably.

Greece turned it around minutes apart in the second half courtesy of Anastasios Bakasetas and Fotis Ioannidis, whilst Les Blues decided to bring on Thuram and captain Mbappe.

The changes energised them and saw Mbappe play in Youssouf Fofana to level it up with a delightful finish before Thuram had a goal disallowed following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

Mbappe then came close to steal the points in stoppage time with a powerful close-range finish, but hit the woodwork and 2-2 it finished in Athens.

Wales 1-1 Turkey

Turkey came from a goal down to bag a 1-1 draw against Wales and ended their qualifying campaign on top of Group D.

Dan Ward, Ben Davies, Ethan Ampadu, Neco Williams, Harry Wilson and Brennan Johnson were all drafted in by the Welsh side.

It took the Welsh just seven minutes to get going as the self-same Williams made the opening when he finished off Wilson's supply.

Turkey recovered after the slow opening and got back on level terms late in the second half as Yusuf Yazici tucked in from the spot to see the spoils shared.

Croatia 1-0 Armenia

Croatia secured automatic qualification to the European Championship with a narrow 1-0 victory over Armenia in their Group D finale.

Veteran midfielder Luka Modric who was a second half substitute against Latvia, started and partnered Marcelo Brozovic with Borna Sosa and Josko Gvardiol moved to a central role in defence.

Sosa didn't take too much to settle and delivered a smart assist for Ante Budimir to get in-behind and find the back of the net before halftime, as the Vatreni held to seal the win and qualification.

Romania 1-0 Switzerland

Romania's qualifying journey for the Euros next June ended on a positive note after seeing off Switzerland 1-0 in a Group I encounter.

The winner happened five minutes in the second half when Denis Alibec combined with a pass from Olimpiu Morutan to nestle the back of the net and secure all the points.
