Former Chiefs coach set to be sacked after AFCON failure

It is now reported that Ghana are set to sack their two national team assistant coaches, including former Kaizer Chiefs technical team member John Paintsil.

Ghana's shocking failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 continues to be a contentious topic in the Ghanaian press, as some still believe that the current coaching staff should have been sacked for what transpired during their appalling qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars finished bottom of their qualifying group after failing to register a single victory, ending their six-game campaign with three draws and three defeats.

This led to widespread outrage in the country, which continues to persist to this day.

It is now reported that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are set to fire the national team's two assistants and retain the head coach, Otto Addo.

According to CitiSports Online, Ghana assistants Paintsil and Joseph Laumann will be dismissed from their roles and replaced by two new unnamed individuals said to be Belgian and Serbian.

With reports now making the rounds in Ghana, former Black Stars defender Mohammed Gargo argues that the head coach, Addo, should also be dismissed instead of just the assistant coaches taking the fall.

"Whenever a team or any football team wants to dismiss the technical team, I think it starts from the head coach, because you are so responsible for what is happening," Gargo told Citi Sports Online.

"You give instructions to your assistants for them to carry on the business of the day. It being the training session, it being the preparation and otherwise.

"So I think if that is going to happen, then the entire technical team must go so they can bring in a new technical team who probably can do better, but not sack the assistants and leave the head coach.

"Because as I'm saying, in some of his post-match interviews, he took responsibility for everything that happened."
