The potential appointment of Benni McCarthy as the Kenya head coach has been met with opposition by a former star, who argues that the South African tactician does not even know the players in the squad.
In recent weeks, McCarthy has been linked with the Kenya job, as the East African side are yet to find a permanent replacement for their former boss, Engin Firat, who resigned last month.

On 11 December, the Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) formally announced that the Turkish coach had stepped down from his role, citing unpaid salaries. The organisation also acknowledged the situation and stated they would attempt to settle the payments.
The search for Firat's successor has been ongoing, with some reports suggesting that the FKF were in a race against time to find a new national team coach before the start of the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) on 1 February 2025.
However, CHAN 2024 has since been postponed to August 2024, which perhaps eases the pressure of finding a new head coach.
Nevertheless, former Kenya striker Boniface Ambani believes that it would still be a "tall order" for McCarthy to succeed as the Harambee Stars boss.
"When you talk of Benni McCarthy, I personally think it will be a tall order for him because he doesn't even know a single player from our team," Ambani said, according to Citizen Sports.
"Should Benni come now, then he will be coming to first of all learn and study our players, as opposed to expecting so much from him."
