'I wasn't playing for 2 months after I told Ten Hag the truth'

A former Manchester United star has made a bombshell claim about his ex-manager Erik ten Hag, revealing that he was benched for two months simply for telling the truth.

Ten Hag's reputation during his tenure at Old Trafford is certainly not a glowing one, as the Dutch boss was widely criticised during the final year of his reign.

During his spell, Ten Hag had several high-profile fallouts with his players, most notably Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

Additionally, English defender Harry Maguire publicly expressed his disappointment after being stripped of the captaincy by the Dutch coach.

Now, it appears that Ten Hag also had issues with another one of his former players at Manchester United—Raphaël Varane.

The retired French defender has dropped a bombshell, revealing that he was relegated to the bench for two months after expressing his truth to Ten Hag about the way the team was playing.

"We had a robust discussion. We told each other some truths, but then I didn't play for almost two months," Varane told The Athletic.

"I said I didn't agree with certain ways of doing things regarding the relationship between him and the team.

"It wasn't something that I thought was good for the team because some of the players weren't at all satisfied.

"It was not good in terms of the relationship with the coach. He said 'OK, I hear what you said' and after that, I didn't play."

Varane added: "It was very tense at times. Sometimes he made an effort to listen to the players' feedback. Sometimes he made decisions without listening to the players' feelings.

"So there were ups and downs. It was complicated at times."
