A 45-capped European international star has come out as gay, becoming the first men's international footballer to do so.
While many women's footballers have been open about their sexuality, it has been an occurrence that is much less common in the men's game.

Last year, Australian player Josh Cavallo reportedly became the first top-flight star to disclose that he is gay, while English Championship star Jake Daniels is recognised as the first British footballer to be open about their sexuality, per Sky Sports.
On Monday, Czech Republic international Jakub Jankto, who is currently on loan at Sparta Prague from LaLiga club Getafe, announced that he will no longer hide his sexual orientation.
"Like everybody else, I have my strengths, I have my weaknesses; I have a family, I have my friends," he said in a video he released on social media on Monday.
"I have a job, which I have been doing it as best as I can, for years, with seriousness, professionalism and passion.
"Like everybody else, I also want to live my life in freedom without fears, without prejudice, without violence, but with love.
"I am homosexual, and I no longer want to hide myself."
With the player having received much positive support since, Sparta posted a statement in support of their midfielder, writing: "Jakub Jankto spoke openly about his sexual orientation with the club's management, coach and teammates some time ago.
"No further comments. No more questions.
"You have our support. Live your life, Jakub. Nothing else matters."

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar also showed his support for the 27-year-old, insisting that every human has the right to lively freely.
"It's an important day," the Brazilian said during a press conference ahead of Paris Saint-Germain's round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
"Everyone is free, prejudices must be less important, whether it's homophobia, racism, any form of discrimination.
"I didn't know [that Jankto made the announcement]. But every human being should be free to do whatever they want."
