EURO 2024 rivals 'shocked' by England's Grealish snub

Players in the German national team were reportedly shocked to see England drop Jack Grealish from their European Championship squad.

The Manchester City star was one of the big omissions from Gareth Southgate's final 26-man squad this week.

Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling did not even make the preliminary squad, but it seems Grealish's snub has left some shocked.

According to the Independent, members of the German team were 'stunned' by Southgate's, including the decision to drop Grealish for Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze.

Eze has starred for Palace this season but will going into his first major tournament next month ahead of Grealish and Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddision.

The report adds that the Germany camp felt Grealish is a player who strikes more fear in the opposition when he rans at defenders.

Southgate did explain his reasoning for leaving out the Premier League winner this week.

"We just feel other players had stronger seasons, particularly in the last six months or so," he stated, according to the Express.

"Attacking areas, in particular, we're blessed with a lot of options, all slightly different. Madders and Jack both give us something different as well.

"They've been tough calls, calls that we as a group have gone over and over and over."
