Mourinho accused of racism - legal action to follow?

Jose Mourinho is once again in the spotlight, with the Portuguese being accused of making racist statements in an incident that could lead to legal action being taken against him.

After his Fenerbahce were held to a goalless draw by Galatasaray on Monday, the Portuguese tactician sparked outrage with his post-match comments about the home team.

The former Real Madrid boss described said that those on the Galatasaray bench were "jumping like monkeys" at a certain point in the game.

Mourinho has previously made some controversial comments regarding the league, the country and match officials, and seemed to continue that trend when he criticised the performance of referee Slavko Vincic.

"I must also thank the referee. In the position I mentioned, everyone on the opponent's bench was jumping like monkeys. If it was a Turkish referee, he would have given the card in the first minute and I should have taken it off in the fifth minute. It was a great match for him," the 62-year-old said per Hurriyet via GOAL.

The Turkish Super Lig leaders did not take kindly to the comments, accusing the former Chelsea boss of making racist remarks.

The club further claimed that Mourinho has repeatedly made "derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people" since taking over at Fenerbahce and have now vowed to take legal action against him.

In a strongly worded statement released on social media platform X, Galatasaray condemned Mourinho's remarks and confirmed their plans to escalate the matter.

"Since the commencement of his managerial duties in Türkiye, Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people.

"Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric.

"We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.

"Furthermore, we shall diligently observe the stance adopted by Fenerbahçe — an institution professing to uphold 'exemplary moral values' — in response to the reprehensible conduct exhibited by their manager.
