New Brazil national team coach 'confirmed'

A certain team has now revealed that their head coach will leave the club and take over the Brazil national team.

The Selecao have been without a permanent manager since Tite's abrupt resignation from the helm in December 2022. The tactician announced his decision a post-match press conference after his side were dumped out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals by Croatia.

Since then, Fernando Diniz was put in charge on an interim basis, as it was widely believed that Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti would take up the job after his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in June.

However, the Italian boss recently revealed that he never formerly accepted the job although discussions were held between his camp and the Brazil federation.

Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo have confirmed that it will be their departing manager Dorival Junior, who will now steer the South American giants to the 2026 World Cup.

"Sao Paulo Football Club announces the departure of coach Dorival Júnior, who has requested to resign in order to take charge of the Brazilian national team," the club wrote on X.

Dorival said: "This is the realization of a personal dream, only made possible because I received recognition for the work done at Sao Paulo. For this reason, I must thank them for being part of this important period of reconstruction, competently led by the presidency and the board of directors.

"With the investment in infrastructure and planning over the past years, the club is ready to welcome the most qualified professionals in the market. I also want to thank the fans for all their affection and support."

Julio Casares, the club president, added: "The invitation extended to Dorival is further proof that we are on the right path.

"In 2021, the CBF had already approached Muricy Ramalho, who will remain at Sao Paulo until the end of my administration. Now it's Dorival's turn, who had a proposal to readjust and extend his contract with São Paulo until the end of my term in 2026, with all the guarantees of stability.

"All that's left is to wish him the best of luck in his new challenge."
