AFCON: Defending champions put in Group of Death

The draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations took place on Monday evening in Rabat, with the defending champions Cote d'Ivoire given a tough group.

The Elephants will be aiming to defend the crown they won on their turf last year, but will have to overcome rivals Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique.

The tournament is scheduled to start in December this year rather than January due to FIFA expanding the FIFA Club World Cup, which gets underway in June this year.

Morocco will be hosting the tournament for the first time since 1988, having pulled out of hosting the 2015 edition due to fears stemming from the Western African Ebola virus epidemic.

The opening game of the tournament will see host nation Morocco take on Comoros on 21 December.

Full Draw:

Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros

Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe

Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania

Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana

Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan

Group F: Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique
