"Swiss Public Prosecutor stops investigations against CAF's Mosengo-Omba as they find no facts or legal basis for proceedings," said CAF in an official statement on X.

"The Swiss Public Prosecutor's Office has decided that it will stop investigations against Confederation Africaine de Football ('CAF') Secretary General, Veron Mosengo-Omba, as they found no facts or legal basis to initiate legal proceedings.

"In November 2024, Veron Mosengo-Omba voluntarily travelled to Fribourg, Switzerland, to answer questions relating to the preliminary investigations.

"CAF welcomes the decision of the Swiss Public Prosecutor's Office and is pleased that there continues to be adherence and compliance within CAF and the CAF Secretariat with the culture and commitment to ethics, transparency, and governance that was introduced since the Presidency of Dr Patrice Motsepe."

The investigation stems from last year when the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROS) contacted the Swiss Public Prosecutor in February, according to Radio France Internationale.

In their analysis, MROS said that there were transactions which showed that Mosengo-Omba "had, on several occasions, obtained bonuses much higher than the maximum set in his employment contract... and received all of these bonuses and salaries in a variety of Swiss accounts."

Ultimately, the matter has now been closed, with the General Secretary having consistently maintained his innocence.
