OFFICIAL: Hazard confirms huge career decision

Former Real Madrid star Eden Hazard has now announced a big career decision.

The Belgian has announced his retirement from professional football just four months after terminating his contract with Real by mutual consent.

Aged just 32, the former Chelsea talisman retires having made 749 senior appearances, registering 200 goals, 193 assists, and 15 trophies, according to Euro Sport.

His statement posted on Instagram reads: "You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.

"After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.

"I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world.

"During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates - thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.

"I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thank the RBFA for my Belgian Selection.

"A special thank you to my family, my friends, my advisors and the people who have been close to me in good times and bad.

"Finally, a huge thank you to you, my fans, who have followed me for all these years and for your encouragement everywhere I have played.

"Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experiences.

"See you off the field soon my friends."

Despite a hugely successful career at Chelsea, where he was widely regarded as one of the best players on the planet during his peak, things did not work out for the former forward at the Santiago Bernabeu, with many having since labelled him as one of the club's biggest flops ever.

Hazard joined Real from Chelsea in 2019 in a deal worth €115 million (R2.3 billion), which, at that point, made him the club's most expensive signing of all time.

However, injuries, lack of fitness, and poor form saw his stock drastically deteriorate as he made just 76 appearances in four years for Los Blancos, and contributed with just seven goals and 12 assists in that time.
