Messi to earn 4x more than Ronaldo after Saudi approach?

Lionel Messi could reportedly be set to earn more than four times what Cristiano Ronaldo is getting at Al Nassr amid a mind-boggling contract offer from another Saudi Arabian team.

The South American's future remains a hot topic, with a number of clubs having reportedly shown interest in the veteran, whose current Paris Saint-Germain contract is set to expire in June.

While reports previously suggested that Messi has decided to stay at Paris Saint-Germain for at least another season, nothing has been publicly confirmed.

With the player able to negotiate a pre-contract with any new team, Mundo Deportivo has now reported that Al Nassr's bitter rivals Al Hilal are looking to offer Messi a deal worth $350 million (R5.8 billion) a year, which would trump Ronaldo's reported annual salary of $75 million (R1.2 billion).

Like Al Nassr's signing of Ronaldo, it is believed that Messi's arrival in the Gulf state would help boost interest in the Saudi Pro League, while the Argentine also recently became an ambassador for Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2030 World Cup with Greece and Egypt.

The report adds that the $350 million annual salary is the most Al Hilal can offer, and that the club is willing to offer no less than $300 million (R5 billion) a year to secure his signature.

It is said the Saudi Arabian football federation is eager to ensure this deal takes place, and will even fund part of it if necessary.
