Esteghlal interim slammed for making 'same mistake as Pitso'

Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh, who took over from Pitso Mosimane as interim manager at Esteghlal, has reportedly been criticised for making the same mistake as his predecessor.

The temporary Capital Blues coach is under fire after his post-match comments regarding Mohammad Reza Azadi's performance, which has been identified as the crucial error made by the former boss.

According to Khabar Sport, Bakhtiarizadeh attempted to justify a substitution of Azadi during their AFC Champions League clash against Al-Shorta on Monday, claiming the player's performance had been subpar.

However, this public criticism has been viewed as a major misstep, given the player's important role in the team.

The backlash mirrors the tensions that arose under Mosimane's tenure, where players reportedly took issue with the South African coach's assessment of the squad.

It is believed that the former Al Ahly manager frequently suggested that the team lacked quality, frustrating the players, who questioned his role in improving the squad's performance.

Regardless, the 60-year-old was appointed as the side's manager in October last year and improved the side's results, lifting them from the relegation battle they were embroiled in, and guiding them to 11th place on the table by the time he had departed.

While Mosimane ultimately left Esteghlal due to outstanding salary payments, he also pointed to other frustrations at the club.

The former Al Ahly boss had revealed to Hamshahri Online that his contract explicitly stated he had control over transfers, but the club ignored this clause and signed players without his approval.

The interim coach has already announced his intention to step down following the Capital Blues' next match against Mes Rafsanjan FC, but it remains to be seen whether the club's hierarchy will intervene before then.

However, reports suggest that under his short tenure, there have been no significant tactical improvements to the team.
