With Iranian football currently on a break until 20 January, Mosimane and the club have reportedly been trying to sort out some of the contractual obligations, with the South African coach said to have demanded some outstanding payments from the team.
Esteghlal officials reportedly tried to resolve the matter by offering their coach cash payments after their attempts to transfer money into Mosimane's South African bank accounts could not go through.
The 60-year-old tactician is believed to be back from holiday and has resumed training with his squad in Tehran. However, Esteghlal have now been hit with a fine by the Iran Pro League disciplinary committee.
In an official ruling by the committee published by Mizan Online News Agency, Esteghlal have been fined "110 million tomans (R49,000) for their fans' abusive chants towards an official figure and a 6-minute delay in entering the pitch" during their 1-1 draw against Sepahan on 2 January 2025.
Meanwhile, Mosimane also recently came under fire for his decision to take an eight-day break.
Former Esteghlal player Shahrokh Bayani told Iranian news publication Mehr: "He [Mosimane] has gotten to know the players of Esteghlal well and understands in which positions they specialise.
"He has made a lot of effort, but there is a major issue with his approach, and he should explain why he took an 8-day break from training.
"In my opinion, he gave himself a rest rather than focusing on the team, and considering the standings, this long break could negatively affect the team.
"Mosimane should have used this break wisely so that the team can reach an ideal condition. Esteghlal has tough matches ahead, and if they are not prepared, it could lead to a lot of controversy for the team again."
