Pitso's side sacks ex-Chelsea star, 2 new incomings

In case you missed it, Pitso Mosimane's side Esteghlal FC have terminated the contract of a former Chelsea star, who only joined the club six months ago.

Having been appointed as head coach in October 2024, Mosimane is reorganising his squad in the current transfer window.

So far, the club have signed three strikers since the South African took charge, with the first being former Cape Town City star Masoud Juma in November last year.

This month, Mosimane added two more centre-forwards, Joel Kojo from Dinamo and Mohammadreza Azadi from Al-Orooba.

With new options in attack, Esteghlal announced this week that they have terminated the contract of former Chelsea attacker Gael Kakuta by mutual agreement.

A statement published on their official page on X confirmed:"Following a meeting between Esteghlal Club's managers, Kakuta, and his agent, both parties reached an agreement to terminate their cooperation.

"Esteghlal Club thanks Kakuta for his efforts during his half-season with the club."

Kakuta joined the club in August 2024 after leaving Amiens SC, but the 33-year-old failed to live up to expectations in Tehran, as he registered no goals and one assist in 18 appearances for Esteghlal.

The French-born Congolese star played 10 of those matches under Mosimane, with seven of them being starts, as per Transfermarkt.

Reports in Iran suggest that there is already interest in Kakuta from some French clubs, while some teams from the Persian Gulf region are also potential destinations for the player.
