A Real Madrid star has taken a jab at Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, dismissing the manager's VAR complaints as "constant victimhood."
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has taken a jab at Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone after their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match at the Riyadh Air Stadium on Wednesday night.
Atletico were eliminated from the Champions League following a 4-2 defeat in penalties on the night. Simeone's team edged a 1-0 victory on Wednesday in the second leg, while Real Madrid secured a 1-0 win in the first leg.
Argentine star Julian Alvarez scored in the shootout, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled that he had double touched the ball when he kicked it, resulting in his penalty being disallowed.

The VAR decision frustrated Simeone, and the outspoken coach lost his cool with the media during a post-match press conference, expressing his dissatisfaction regarding Alvarez's disallowed goal.
Consequently, Courtois, who previously worked with Simeone at Los Colchoneros, was not entirely happy with Atletico's tactician remarks and has now responded to his former manager.
''UEFA sees it clearly,'' Courtois said according to Forbes.
''I'm fed up with this constant victimhood and crying about things like this. The referee doesn't benefit any team, neither in Spain nor in Europe.

''I think they saw it clearly and that's why they called it that way. They're human beings and can make mistakes, but with the technology of the VAR room, they saw it clearly.
''If you're winning 1-0 from the first minute and then don't go for the second, that's probably where the mistake of their game lies.''
