Rugby WC star: Why I did controversial CR7 celebration

A rugby World Cup star has explained why he controversially did Cristiano Ronaldo's goal celebration after scoring against Portugal on the weekend.

Wales took on the Portuguese in the Rugby World Cup on Saturday, with the British nation emerging victorious over their opponents with a 28-8 scoreline.

However, one moment seemed to rub some Portugal fans in attendance and online up the wrong way.

After scoring a try, Welsh winger Louis Rees-Zammit did Ronaldo's famous "SIUUU" celebration, which caused quite a stir, with some feeling it was a jibe aimed at the Portuguese.

The rugby star has since insisted he meant no offence by the act, and explained that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, is in fact, his idol.

"A few of the boys back home, they are massive football fans," Rees-Zammit told Sky Sports

"We're all Man United fans and they said, 'If you score against Portugal, you're probably not going to play them often, can you do the Ronaldo celebration?'

"And I scored and I've done it."

He was then asked about the Portuguese fans' reaction to the celebration.

"I'm not sure [how they took it]" he answered.

"I heard a few 'SIUUUs' in the background, which is good, but it wasn't meant to be offensive or anything, you know?

"I absolutely love Ronaldo, he's my idol and I thought: Why not do his celebration?"

Meanwhile, Ronaldo himself found the back of the net on the same day, helping Al Nassr to a 3-1 win over Al Raed.
