UPDATE: Big development in Atsu rescue operation

A huge development in the unfortunate case of former Chelsea star Christian Atsu has been reported after the player was left trapped under the rubble as a result of an earthquake on Turkey on Monday.

More than 3 800 people are said to have already lost their lives following Monday's devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake, while thousands more were left injured in the aftermath of the disaster.

The Ghanaian international was severely effected by the catastrophic event, as he was left trapped under the debris after a second earthquake hit the region just hours later, disrupting the rescue efforts that were initially being made.

Attempts to recover the former Newcastle United player, two of his Hatayspor teammates, and some members of the club's technical continued in the hours that followed.

The 31-year-old star has since been was found alive and was pulled from the rubble and taken to hospital, Hatayspor vice president Mustafa Ozat has confirmed, per Radyo Gol.

"Christian Atsu was taken out with injuries. Our sporting director, Taner Savut, is unfortunately still under the rubble," he said.

It is reported that the player is currently recovering under medical supervision as he sustained injury on his right foot and had difficulties breathing.

Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu also confirmed that the ex-Everton winger has been pulled from the wreckage alive.

Hatayspor are yet to release an official statement regarding Atsu's rescue operations.
