AFCON 2019: Bafana Bafana to face Egypt in last-16 at Cairo International stadium

Bafana Bafana will face hosts Egypt in the last-16 of the Africa Cup of Nations at the iconic Cairo International stadium.   South Africa were on the brink of a group stage exit after their last-minute defeat to Morocco at Al Salam on Monday evening.   READ: Hotto on 'unexpected' Bafana   However, after an incredible turn of events where Stuart Baxter's men needed Angola, Mauritania, Kenya, Guinea-Bissau and Benin to miss out on three points - the unthinkable has occurred.   After Bafana's disappointing defeat, Kenya lost 3-0 to Senegal and today's fixtures confirmed the progression for South Africa.   Benin drew 0-0 with Cameroon, Ghana beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0, Angola lost 1-0 to Mali while Mauritania played to a goalless draw with Tunisia.   After scoring just a single goal in Group D against Southern rivals Namibia, Bafana have advanced to the knock-out stage for the first time since they hosted the continental showpiece in 2013.   READ: Kekana on Baxter's tactical instructions   Egypt, meanwhile, cruised through Group A beating Zimbabwe, DR Congo and Uganda, scoring five goals and conceding none - despite not being at their fluent best.   UEFA Champions League winner Mohamed Salah and winger Trézéguet have been at the forefront of their displays built on defensive resilience and organisation under head coach Javier Aguirre.   The fixture will take place on Saturday, July 6 at the 75 000 seater venue in the capital city of Egypt at 21h00.
