Guinea-Bissau secured their first point at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals with a goalless draw against Benin on Saturday.
With four changes from the loss to Cameroon, Nanu, Marcelo Djalo Taritolay, Bura Nogueira and Mame Balde started for Guinea, while Stephane Sessegnon returned for Benin.
The latter, who threatened a win against Ghana, started brightly in the first five minutes with scares from Sessi D'Almeida and Mickael Pote.
Guinea struggled to get out of the woods, but managed to do so in the last eight minutes of the half with a header from Djalo off Piqueti's cross. Benin however provided the first effort on target 37 minutes in through Steve Mounie, who saw his shot from the left side spurned by Jonas Mendes.
Close to halftime, both sides managed to find spaces in and around the final third but the final deliveries left much to be desired as the half closed down.
Both nations were presented with opportunities minutes in the second half, with Frederic Mendy heading wide while Pote scuffed a low shot from outside the area moments later.
The pace at which the match went about became subdued, with both defences reduced to a high-line structure Undoubtedly, for this reason Benin opted for a change after 64 minutes as Jodel Dossou came on for Cebio Soukou.
Guinea's first substitution came inside the 70th minute mark, with Joao Jaquite brought on for the off-form Pele.
The final minutes became a close-knit affair, with neither side able to find any decent openings in the attacking third, thus bringing the clash to an end.
