Guinea finished third in Group B at the Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 victory over a ten-man Burundi on Sunday.
Already eliminated, Burundi handed starts to Pierre Kwizera, Hussein Shabani, Francis Mustafa and Mohamed Amissi, while Mohamed Yattara started for the Guineans as the only change.
The action took off instantly, with Shabani going close with a shot from outside the area seven minutes on the clock. A dismissal from the Burundians after 12 minutes saw Christophe Nduwarugira sent to the dressing room for bringing down Yattara, who was clear on goal.
The tempo from their side remained the same, as Simon Falette asked questions two minutes later with an effort from the centre of goal. For all their endeavour, the Swallows fell into a sucker punch after 25 minutes with a composed finish from Yattara following a corner kick.
Burundi looked for a leveller later on, with the Guineans holding a firm line to head to the break in the lead. The West Africans went further in front six minutes from the break with a finish off the counter by Yattara after the Burundians went to sleep.
Guinea weren't done though; as Ibrahima Traore missed the top corner seven minutes later from Mikael Dyrestam's assist Burundi's first substitution materialised at the same time, with Cedric Amissi replacing Mohamed Amissi.
The Syli National kept coming for more with Amadou Diawarra's right-footed shot from outside the area, but Jonathan Nahimana pulled clear after 62 minutes.
As full-time dawned, the Burundians failed to push the Guineans to the edge thus leaving the latter to a cool victory and passage into the knockout stages.
