Benin advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after defeating Morocco 4-1 on penalties on Friday night.
Yassine Bounou and Nabil Dirar returned for the Atlas Lions from the win over South Africa and were tasked to police Cebio Soukou and Mickael Pote, who were second-half substitutes against Cameroon.
From the offensive area, Youssef En-Nesyri forced Saturnin Allagbe to a low save six minutes in from Nordin Amrabat's supply.
The Moroccans continued doing all the spadework, with Hakim Ziyech firing wide on the half-hour mark whilst Younes Belhanda lashed off target.
Following a quiet first half, the Squirrels drew first blood against the run of play 53 minutes in after Moise Adilehou profited from a corner.
Changes rolled in as expected, with Sofiane Boufal replacing Belhanda six minutes later, and the former nearly made an instant impact but fired off target.
After persistent pressing, the Atlas Lions prayers were finally answered in the final 15 minutes when Mbark Boussoufa set-up En-Nesyri to level matters.
Benin looked to head back in front through Tidjani Anaane who replaced Jodel Doussou a minute to full-time, while Oussama Idrissi marked his tournament debut from the Moroccan bench.
A penalty in to time added on was awarded to Morocco following a foul inside the area, but Ziyech hit the post, forcing the match to extra-time.
The action restarted on a fiery mode with Benin reduced to ten men seven minutes in after Khaled Adenon appeared to push the match official. The North Africans failed to capitalise with Ziyech missing from close parameters as the match headed to penalties.
Successive misses from Boufal and En-Nesyri in the shoot-out dented Morocco's hopes, as Benin converted all their four spot kicks for a quarter-final spot.
