Gyan was allegedly disappointed by the idea of being stripped of the national team captaincy and was not keen on the idea of playing for the Black Stars again.

However, days later he was convinced by the nations President to perform a sensational retirement u-turn that has now seen him in the final squad for his eighth AFCON.

Ayew has been confirmed as the new captain, while the Absa Premiership will have another representitive in the form of Martizburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

The Black Stars will face off against Bafana Bafana on June 15 in Dubai for a final warm-up game before the team jets off to North Africa on June 20.
