KickOff.com picks five countries like to compete for AFCON honours

snl24.com/kickoff picks five countries that have the biggest chance of winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

Egypt

Of the four times they have hosted the competition, Egypt have won it on three occasions, which shows how good they are whenever they are on home soil. With the best player in their side – Mohamed Salah – Egypt certainly have a good chance of going all the way. They've got players with loads of experience of playing in continental competitions, both at club and international level.

Senegal

The Lions of Teranga were devastating during the qualifiers, winning five of their six matches and drawing the other. They finished the campaign on 16 points, six clear of Madagascar. Coach Aliou Cisse has assembled a strong squad, with European stars such as Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gueye and Keita Balde. Youngsters such as Ismaila Sarr, Moussa Wague and Krepin Diatta are eager to shine and could play a key role.

Tunisia

They finished top of their qualifying group ahead of Egypt, winning five out of the six matches they played. The Tunisians last won the competition when they hosted in 2004, but with Esperance doing so well in the CAF Champions League in the last two years, they should fancy their chances of conquering Africa in the Cup of Nations. They will be familiar with the conditions with Egypt.

Morocco

With two-time AFCON winning coach Herve Renard in the hotseat, Morocco can't quite be ruled out of going all the way. They've had some disappointing campaigns in the past, but Renard has assembled a good squad with youth and experience. The likes of Medhi Benatia, Hakim Ziyech and Younes Belhanda will guide younger players such as Achraf Hakimi and Youssef En-Nesyri.

Nigeria

Since winning the competition in South Africa in 2013, Nigeria have been disappointing. They did not qualify for the last two editions, but they are back with a squad with players who are hungry to deliver, such as Henry Onyekuru, Wilfried Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Peter Etebo and William Troost-Ekong.
