Despite not playing regular football in 2018/19, Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper Reyaad Pieterse is seen as back-up in case any of Bafana Bafana's goalkeepers get injured before the Africa Cup of Nations.

Pieterse has been included in Bafana's COSAFA Cup squad alongside Darren Johnson and Mondli Mpoto, and will only make the AFCON squad if any of Darren Keet, Ronwen Williams or Bruce Bvuma – goalkeepers selected for the continental showpiece in Egypt – gets injured.
Pieterse joined Sundowns from SuperSport United at the start of the past season and made just five appearances in all competitions. In the few games he played, the former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper did not really prove himself.

"We have our three goalkeepers [for AFCON]. If one of those goalkeepers is injured in the preparation, we don't want to go pick up a goalkeeper who is four weeks on the beach and then has to go play an AFCON game," Baxter said after announcing his squad on Tuesday afternoon.
"So Reyaad is the one we are hoping to get game time [in the COSAFA Cup] and will therefore make himself available should we need him," the former Chiefs and SuperSport coach added.
