Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic reacts to Zambia AFCON 2021 qualification failure

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic has reacted to his failure to qualify Zambia to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

With a golden generation brewing within Zambia led by the likes of RB Salzburg stars Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka, much was expected from the side in Group H alongside Botswana, Zimbabwe and Algeria.

However, after a 5-1 defeat to Algeria and a 2-1 loss at home against Zimbabwe, Aggrey Chiyangi received his marching order with 'Micho', who was sacked by Zamalek assumed the role as head coach.

But the Serbian was unable to prevent their third consecutive AFCON qualification failure, as the 2012 champions finished a point behind the Warriors after six games which 'Micho' feels he cannot be blamed for.

"[I] proudly coached great football nation [the] Zambia Chipolopolo team, I took [the] job while on zero points from two matches," he wrote on social media.

"In [the] rescue mission of four matches we [earned] seven deserved points. [I'm] firmly convinced that if I was from the start of AFCON qualifiers campaign just concluded we would [have] easily qualified."

'Micho' will now lead the Southern Africans to the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Tunisia, Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea in their Group B.
