Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch opens up about not getting any action at the Africa Cup of Nations

PSL Footballer of the Season Thembinkosi Lorch has opened up about not getting any action at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Orlando Pirates winger, who also won the Absa Premiership Player's Player of the Season, has not played single minute in Egypt, despite calls from supporters to see the player on the pitch.

Bafana have scored just one goal in the competition in three matches and Lorch, who got into double figures for the first time in his career during the past season, has not been to even come on as a substitute.

With Themba Zwane suspended for this Saturday's last 16 clash against hosts Egypt, Lorch will be hoping to get a run.

"Things like this happen in football. You just have to be strong and wait for your chance and when the chance comes you just have to use it," Lorch said.

"I think I'm ready. I know it's been a long time for me not playing, but I am ready to deliver when I get a chance. I'd say my fitness [has been affected] because of not playing, but by confidence is still there. I always have confidence. I just have to wait for my chance to play."

Despite not getting any action, Lorch says there is a lot that he is learning

"It has been a good tournament so far and I am happy to be part of this team. I've learnt so many things and I think when I get back to my team my confidence will be higher, so yeah, it's been a good tournament.

"I've learnt to see how other people are people from overseas are playing, the likes of Bongani [Zungu], Thulani [Serero]…the experience of being in the team."

Bafana will take on Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium.
