Percy Tau not threatened by Bafana Bafana's AFCON rivals

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has expressed confidence heading into his first Africa Cup of Nations finals and insisted their opponents pose no threat in his eyes.

Bafana are set to come up against African powerhouses in Ivory Coast and Morocco, while COSAFA rivals Namibia also appear to be no pushovers.

It could be a massive campaign for Tau, who is set to make his debut at the tournament, shortly after seeing a rise in his club career in recent years.

He has already competed on huge stages such as the CAF Champions' League finals, FIFA Club World Cup, a club friendly against FC Barcelona – all at Mamelodi Sundowns – while also bagging Player of the Season awards in back-to-back seasons.

Now 'The Lion of Judah', as he is affectionately known, has the opportunity to make a name for himself in the colours of Bafana, and the 25-year-old admits it is an important occasion not only for himself but others in the team and the nation as a whole.

"I think it's huge for everybody. Lucky enough it comes at 25, for Lebo Mothiba it comes at 23, so it's actually good for a lot of guys," said Tau.

"It will be my first time, and also for a number of other guys, so I think it's good for the nation as well that we're able to go there and compete and win it."

Asked whether the big names within The Elephants and Atlas Lions squad brings out any awe in him, the Brighton Hove Albion attacker responded with great self-assurance.

"Not at all, no. I'm looking forward to it," he added.
