South Africa will have only two officials at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
There are a total of 26 referees and 32 assistant referees to officiate the 32nd edition of the AFCON, which is the first ever to have 24 teams participating.
Victor Gomes and assistant referee Zakhele Siwela are the only two officials from South Africa who will be in Egypt.
Gomes and Siwela were invited to a referees workshop back in Morocco in April, to gather as much information as possible ahead of AFCON. This was to ensure referees are up to date with the latest trends, rules and developments of the game.
Highly rated referee Bakary Papa Gassama is the only referee from Gambia. The likes of Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon and Senegal have three or more officials. There are no referees from Ghana or Nigeria on the list.
