Chief among this edition's leading goalscorers were Zambia's Patson Daka, who has since been linked with a move to Manchester United, and Nigeria's Victor Osimhen, who both top-scored with five goals each for their respective nations.
Trailing close behind was South Africa's Percy Tau who netted four times for Bafana Bafana although, similarly to Daka, his goalscoring exploits were not enough to secure his nation a spot at next year's much-anticipated tournament.
Tau was not the only player to net four times as his tally was matched by three other players, including Baghdad Bounedjah, of reigning champions Algeria, Central Africa Republic's Louis Mafouta, and Burundi star Saidi Ntibazonkiza.
