Thembinkosi Lorch takes CAF Champions League lessons

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch has explained how playing in the CAF Champions League has helped him prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.   Lorch made his Champions League debut last season with the Buccaneers and impressed in what was by far his best campaign in top flight football.   He has not featured yet at AFCON, but will be hoping to get a run when Bafana take on hosts Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium this evening.

Pirates played against North African giants Esperance in Tunisia, which was valuable experience for Lorch. He says playing in the competition has helped him mentally.   "I think it prepared us, because most of the people have height. So we as thin players they think we can't compete. It's a big stage and it has prepared us mentally," Lorch said.   The former Chippa United and Cape Town All Stars player added: "It was my first time playing in the Champions League with Pirates and I have seen how they play. We respect them, but we don't have to fear them."   With Themba Zwane suspended for tonight's clash, Lorch has a good chance of featuring against the hosts.
