The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have dropped a major bombshell on Zimbabwe, that's likely to destabilise their preparations for the FIFA World Cup and AFCON qualifiers.
Zimbabwe has officially been barred from hosting international fixtures until further notice after it was confirmed that their stadiums failed to meet the required standards.
The Zimbabwean Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed that CAF made the decision after inspecting their stadia back in November.
CAF requested for the Barbourfields, Mandava and the National Sports Stadium to be revamped and after no action, the decision was taken on Tuesday.
And the outcome is likely to rock the Warriors plans ahead of their 2021 AFCON qualifier against African champions Algeria next month - with a neutral venue expected to be confirmed.
"While Zifa is engaging Caf with a view to appeal this decision," ZIFA said in an official statement.
"We have asked stadium authorities to send us timelines on work that needs to be done before Caf comes for another inspection.
"To date, (none) of the three stadium authorities has requested us to invite Caf for another inspection - a position which Caf has said led to the decision to bar all three stadiums from hosting international matches."
ZIFA also confirmed they are now seeking alternative venues in neighbouring countries with the Peter Mokaba Stadium mooted as possible call.
