AmaZulu chairman explains Majoro decision

AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu has announced the departure of striker Lehlohonolo Majoro for the Durban-based, along with as many as 10 other players.

Majoro, who has accumulated over 270 appearances in the top-flight of South African football, featured 19 times this season and managed to score just one goal as Usuthi fined an underwhelming 12th position.

Speaking at a media briefing on Monday morning, Zungu announced that the striker would be leaving the club but would have the option to return in a non-playing role.

"Among the people whose life with AmaZulu as a player has come to an end is the legendary Lehlohonolo Majoro," Zungu said.

"I single him out because he has done so much for the team over the years. I've had a lot of pleasure working with Majoro from the 2021 season up to this season.

"I've indicated to him that I as much as his contractual obligations to the team have now be relieved and vice versa, that it is my intention that, over time, we will rope him [back] in because he is a very exemplary leader to the youngsters to see what role he can play.

"Naturally there will be a meeting, together to discover what his mission is in the short term, and if his mission includes soccer, if his soft spit for AmaZulu continues then I think there a cause for discussion [over a non-playing] role.

"So we say a big thank you to Majoro for the exemplary leadership and the role that he played at AmaZulu.

"It would have been his and most certainly my wish that he scores his 100th goal in the colours of AmaZulu football club but it was not to be. He may choose to continue with his playing career, that's his choice. We wish him all the best.

The 36-year-old striker is understood to be aiming for at least one more season on the playing field and before calling time on a career that includes stints at Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City among others.
