Midfielder George Maluleka has issued a warning to his AmaZulu teammates over the threat of minnows Dondol Stars who have 'nothing to lose' as the two teams will prepare to meet in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday.
Usuthu got their first win in six league encounters when they beat Chippa United 2-0 on Sunday. The Durban-based outfit is now looking to continue their run in the Nedbank Cup where they meet Vincent Rammoni's side.
Although their opponents ply their trade in the ABC Motsepe Foundation, Dondol's shock win over SuperSport United in the last 32 has served as a warning to upcoming opponents and AmaZulu's Maluleka believes his side will have to be cautious when facing Stars.
"Dondol won't be an easy opponent. We've seen a couple of their clips and also that SuperSport match, and we saw that they aren't afraid to play," Maluleka said.
"But I think if we can just apply ourselves and approach the game without undermining the opposition we should be able to pull through.
The Nedbank Cup has grown a notorious reputation for causing shock upsets such as TS Galaxy's memorable win over Kaizer Chiefs in the competition's 2019 final.
"We are aware of the history of the tournament, the David and Goliath factor, but like I said we shouldn't have that in mind," Maluleka added.
"The approach should be just as in any other game, respecting the opponents but also showing them that we are just as capable and show why we're playing in the top tier.
"But yes, we're wary of them being a smaller team and they have nothing to lose so they can be more expressive which puts us under more pressure.
"I think we should just give it our all and apply ourselves and give it our all and we shouldn't have any problems."
The match venue, previously set for the TUT Pretoria Stadium, has since been changed to FNB Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:30.
