Chiefs & Downs pursue Moremi, agency responds

AmaZulu FC attacker Tshepang Moremi's agency has opened up on their wishes for the player's future amid reported interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Moremi had a stellar 2023/24 season at Usuthu under Pablo Franco Martin, following his loan spell at JDR Stars.

He got his breakthrough in the DStv Premiership under Benni McCarthy, who showed faith in the then 20-year old after making 15 appearances in all competitions.

However, Moremi was seemingly not in the plans of McCarthy's successor Brandon Truter ahead of last term and was sent out on loan to the Hammerboyz in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Recalled under Martin, Moremi became one of the key players for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit after making an impressive 29 appearances in the topflight, with a return of two goals.

Reports have been gathering momentum that Gauteng teams, particularly Chiefs and Sundowns, have shown serious interest.

According to Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi have made the 23-year-old one of their priority signings ahead of 2024/25, despite Sundowns having shown initial interest.

Speaking exclusively to KickOff, Mike Makaab, CEO of ProSport International, has admitted that there is a lot of interest in the AmaZulu academy graduate but mentioned what he would prefer for the player.

"I don't think so [he will move ahead of the new season], but you know. There has been a lot of interest in him," Makaab said.

"Tshepang, if you sit with him and talk to him, what a wonderful character. You get certain football players that have such an incredible desire to be the best, to work hard, to be as professional and committed to his career as possible, and Moremi is one of those players.

"He's an exciting player. Last season was his breakthrough season at AmaZulu. I think we're going to see a lot of the young man this season and ja, I'm excited about him and his future.

"But at the moment, I think it's important for him to continue at AmaZulu, become a regular and make a difference to the team."

Moremi's good season was rewarded with a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad currently doing duty at the COSAFA Cup tournament in Gqeberha, as he featured in the 1-1 draw against Mozambique on Wednesday.
