The future of defender Bonginkosi Makume remains uncertain as AmaZulu appear to have pulled out of the race for the centre-back's signature.
The 27-year-old is among a long list of players expected to leave The Team of Choice following the club's relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Usuthu were previously understood to be favourites to land his signature, with chairman Sandile Zungu believed to be a long-time admirer of the centre-back.

However, in a fresh twist, those close to the proceeding have informed this website that Usuthu have seemingly cooled their interest and may be heading in a different direction.
"There was heavy interest at first but they (AmaZulu) have gone completely quiet. Whether they will follow through or leave it remains to be seen," a source tells KickOff.
The centre-back made 29 appearances last season. Chippa United, Sekhukhune and Swallows are more possible destinations for Makume, having previously expressed interest in the player's services.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg United has already parted ways with Travis Graham, Bradley Cross, Wayde Jooste and Ali Meza among others. Karim Kimvuidi, Genino Palace and Rowan Human are more names United are expected to cash in on during this window.
Jooste has been training with Usuthu, although a decision is yet to be made while Human is likely to end up as part of the Durban-based outfit by the start of the season, with Zungu having confirmed interest in the player.
