Zuma’s disappointing fall with pending Usuthu departure

Dumisani Zuma is expected to leave AmaZulu upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June having failed to stop a disappointing trend about his game time contribution.

Zuma joined Usuthu at the beginning of the 2022/23 season on a guaranteed first year that would then determine if the optional remainder of the contract would be exercised.

So much was expected from the 28-year-old considering the ill-discipline issues that contributed to his departure from Kaizer Chiefs.

Zuma was suspended twice at Chiefs firstly for driving under the influence of alcohol and then what Chiefs described as transgressing the club's code of conduct.

However, in all the 23 appearances he made for Durban club in the 2022/23 campaign he only scored – a goal that came against his previous employers at the beginning of the year 2023.

What is rather discouraging about Zuma is that he hasn't been able to play 90 minutes in his last 62 appearances at Chiefs and AmaZulu.

The last time Zuma played a competitive football match from start to finish was on November 6, 2019 when he scored a brace for Kaizer Chiefs against Chippa United.

Since then, the former youth international has featured in another 62 games but has not been able to put in a full shift in any of those games.

The numbers show that he has averaged a goal in every 15 appearances that he makes with his assist weight also thin.
