Broos’ Bafana concerns rise

Bafana Bafana's return to action next week will come with concerns for Hugo Broos following what has happened since the last FIFA dates.

Bafana will play back-to-back fixtures against Congo during the next FIFA calendar dates, starting at home on Friday, October 11 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, before travelling to Brazzaville for the return leg four days later.

This will come with worries over two key players.

The goalkeeping will be back in safe hands with the return of Ronwen Williams, with Sipho Chaine and Ricardo Goss having been earning minutes at their respective clubs.

Veli Mothwa has taken his blundering ways back to club football, where he has since been benched.

At the back, the big concern will be Siyabonga Ngezana, who hasn't played at his Romanian club FCSB since the last FIFA break.

FCSB have played four matches without the defender, who was initially benched but has since not been in the matchday squad for the past three games.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star has recently been establishing himself as first-choice centre-back for Broos, playing every minute in the last four Bafana matches.

He was on the bench against CFR Cluj, before not being in the squad for games against Petrolul, FK RFS and then Sepsi OSK on Sunday.

Khuliso Mudau has only played 16 minutes at Mamelodi Sundowns since the last Bafana assignment.

Then in midfield, there is the issue of Teboho Mokoena, who also hasn't played since the last national team match.

He didn't play both legs of the CAF Champions League tie against Mbabane Swallows and hasn't featured in the three Betway Premiership games played by the Tshwane giants so far.

Sphephelo 'Yaya' Sithole is out injured, which means the two central midfield starters from the last Bafana match against South Sudan have not played any football since then.

Another Bafana call-up in central midfield, Bathusi Aubaas, has only started one match and played 12 minutes in the other at The Brazilians.
