Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Grant Johnson has outlined what needs to be done for the other net-minders in the national team to reach the same level as Ronwen Williams.
There are concerns that Bafana lacks strong cover for the Mamelodi Sundowns star, who was nominated for the Yachine Trophy accolade at this year's FIFA Ballon d'Or Awards..

"No, I don't think so, but it's only due to experience and game time," offers Johnson in an interview with KickOff.com, responding to whether he thinks the other keepers are on the same level.
"If the other keepers are given regular game-time at international level, they will quickly catch up to Ronwen.
"As far as back-up for Ronwen goes, we have quite a few goalkeepers in the country who have been part of the national team.
"The challenge we face is that at any given time, anyone can step in. We don't have many friendly matches to give everyone a chance, so when Ronwen is not fit or unavailable, we end up playing goalkeepers who haven't had much game-time with the national team.
"Playing in the PSL and playing in the national team are vastly different experiences. International football comes with a higher level of pressure and a different style of play. I believe we have quality back-up goalkeepers, but the lack of game-time is our main issue. As good as they are, without proper exposure, it's a challenge for them.

"We have Sage Stephens, who has recently joined the squad, as well as Ricardo Goss, Bruce Bvuma, Melusi Buthelezi, and Sipho Chaine, all of whom have been part of the set-up. There are at least five or six goalkeepers we can call on.
"Goss and [Veli] Mothwa likely have the most experience, but Chaine played recently against South Sudan, so he is getting some game-time.
"Overall, we have the quality in terms of back-up goalkeepers, but [they] lack the necessary game-time to gain international exposure and experience."
