Massive money on Bafana win from betting houses

As the hours count down towards Bafana Bafana's first semi-final in 24 years as they seek a surprise push into Sunday's decider, betting houses are all having Nigeria as the favourites to win.

This means for those who are in the gambling space, the money is on a Bafana win.

Hugo Broos' men were again not favoured to win when they came up against Morocco in the last 16 which meant for those who went with a Bafana win, they were smiling all the way to the bank.

Up against the best ranked country on the continent, Bafana were somehow able to stage a surprise 2-0 win that came with rich pickings for punters.

The odds offered by betting houses were all 'sweet' for a Bafana win.

Scrolling through the latest odds from various betting houses it is the same again with the pendulum swinging towards a Super Eagles win.

On average the minimal offering for a Bafana win is five times your stake and stretches up to as much as seven times with some houses.

This is despite the order of upsets that have been happening at the tournament with the top five ranked nations already out.

There is also a healthy offering for a draw.

The bookmakers have Nigeria priced at 8/13 on average with the Super Eagles having history on their side while the game is being played in territory that they are familiar with in West Africa.

Ademola Lookman is favoured to score after scoring in both the knockout matches.

The Super Eagles are being backed to keep a clean sheet and stand as favourites to lift their fourth Nations Cup title after the success of 1980, 1994, and 2013.

Betting trends aside, the Stade de la Paix in Boauke is where the action will happen this evening (19h00).

Wednesday's meeting is a repeat of the 2000 semi-finals won by Nigeria through Tijani Babangida's brace.
