Hugo Broos, the Bafana Bafana coach, has since confirmed that it was an Achilles injury.
"Themba Zwane is very important for us," says Broos.
"It was not a good thing for us that Themba has to go out with an injury.
"It is a big injury, an Achilles.
"I'm afraid he will be out for months, so again, when you lose such an important player, it is difficult in a game in which you are dominated because Themba is someone who can keep the ball and give the last pass.
"So, he was not there and maybe that was a reason why we didn't play so well today," adds the Belgian.
