Broos tips Bafana players for European moves

Head coach Hugo Broos has tipped some Bafana Bafana players for European moves, after their impressive showing in the AFCON.

South Africa's AFCON title ambitions went up in smoke after suffering a heart breaking 4-2 defeat in the penalty shootout against the Super Eagles.

The game had ended in a 1-1 scoreline thanks to second half goals by William Troot-Ekong and Teboho Mokoena from the spot.

The continental competition has been a great advert for the South African football, with the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Thapelo Maseko and Ronwen Williams receiving plenty of plaudits for their performances across Bafana's six matches.

As you know, this is also a big satisfaction that, even when we're not playing good, we win games against the 'small' countries," he added.

"We also won against Morocco two times, we played a fantastic game against Ivory Coast in October last year, and the performances here at AFCON have been good, or very good even – the way you saw us play today.

"That means we don't need to have any fear anymore if tomorrow we play against a big African country (team). We are good, and we have to believe that.

"This is something I said to the players in the last months, believe in yourself please. You have the qualities but you have to change something and they did.

"That's why again, I said it a few minutes ago, I'm so proud of those guys. They wanted to progress, they wanted to play good football.

"Now I really think, I really think that for some players, there is a door open now to Europe because they showed that they can play the way they want (level of football required in Europe)."

Bafana still have a bronze medal to play for when they take on DR Congo in a third-place play off on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15:00.
