CONFIRMED: Bafana striker Lyle Foster withdrawn

As revealed by KickOff on Monday morning, Bafana Bafana will be minus the services of key striker Lyle Foster for the AFCON qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville taking place on Tuesday evening.

Hugo Broos' men made light work of their opponents in Friday's fixture at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, where Foster added his name on the score sheet as they triumphed with a 5-0 scoreline.

Foster's strike was the fourth goal in the 52nd minute, with Teboho Mokoena having already bagged his brace and Bathusi Aubaas also having netted with a header straight from a corner kick.

Substitute Iqraam Rayners put the final nail in the coffin, scoring the fifth 12 minutes from full time.

However, soon thereafter, the Burnley FC man had to be stretchered off the field after clashing with goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi.

Foster was then sent to scans for further analysis.

Good news, though, is that the 24-year-old's injury is not as serious as was initially thought.

"Fortunately, the nature of the injury does not require surgery. However, time has to be afforded to him for proper rehabilitation and this is why he has been ruled out of the match on Tuesday," said Bafana Bafana team doctor, Dr. Tshepo Molobi, per the SAFA website.

As revealed by this publication earlier today, the former Orlando Pirates player did not travel to Brazzaville as a precautionary and has made his way back to the United Kingdom to undergo rehabilitation at Burnley.

This comes as a minor setback for Foster, who has been working hard to regain the club level form that made many sit up and take notice of his goalscoring prowess in the English Premier League last season, and he will be hoping to be available for selection for the next FIFA break penciled in for November 11-19.
