Stuart Baxter's boys are facing Libya on Sunday in a must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Tunisia, and McCarthy believes the team will qualify if they go all out.
"We have a huge chance, with the squad we have right now there's no excuse for us not to win on Sunday. The other good thing is even the Premier Soccer League postponed games so this team can be well prepared," McCarthy said.
"We need to create and score which has been our challenge for years, players need to fight for the whole country, die on the pitch if they have to because we not only want to qualify but go all the way and do well in Egypt. It all starts on Sunday."
On the young blood in the team, McCarthy was asked if the nation can believe again and if Bafana can reclaim the glory days of South African football.
"These young players can definitely help us in going back to where we belong as a country, they just need proper guidance from all those involved in our football, by giving them emotional and physical support," he concluded.
